Global Week of Action 2026 | Beyond burning: stories from the ground

What happens when communities say no to burning waste, and yes to better solutions?
Across Europe and beyond, people are coming together to oppose waste incineration and to protect their communities, their health and the resources we all depend on.
As part of the Global Week of Action to Stop Incineration, join us for an inspiring conversation with local activists from Croatia, Nigeria, France, and Italy. They will share their experiences of organising in their communities, raising awareness and challenging plans for new incinerators or the expansion of existing facilities.
From local campaigns to broader movements for zero waste, these stories show that communities can make a difference and that there are better ways to manage our resources than burning them.
Local voices, shared experiences
The webinar will bring together activists working in very different contexts, but with a shared message: waste should not be seen as fuel. Our speakers will share:
- How local communities are coming together to oppose incineration projects.
- What motivates people to get involved and build local support.
- The challenges activists face, and the strategies that can help overcome them.
- How local campaigns can connect with wider movements for zero waste.
- What we can learn from communities creating a different vision for how we manage waste.
