Each work area has two 2-hour sessions that will build on each other, that aims to accommodate different timezones so members can attend the one that best fits their region. For the closing ceremony, we will only have one session to bring members from all regions together

GLOBAL OPENING
(2 hours session)
Welcome to the Global Week of Solidarity and Celebration! During this session, GAIA’s International and Regional Coordinators will share a “State of the Network” report, highlighting key campaigns and initiatives as well as updates on our grants, finances, and staff on the GAIA and ZWE teams. We’ll invite participating members to chime in with information from their countries and hear back from online regional meetings that are being held in November and early December. Join us to get your questions answered, and to learn, share, and celebrate all that we’ve done together over the last few years.

ANTI-INCINERATION DAY
(2 HOURS SESSION)
Are you seeing any threats around waste burning in cement kilns in your region? As corporations and governments increasingly push it as a climate and waste solution, GAIA is organizing a space to share your experience and knowledge on the fight against this false solution. All GAIA/ZWE members are welcome to join this session where we will learn from one another — from the global perspective to the on-the-ground actions organized by GAIA members. There will be presentations, Q&As, and discussions that can help our movement catalyze a global shift towards real solutions and debunk waste burning together.

CELEBRATION SPACE
(1 HOUR SESSION)
The Celebration Spaces are an opportunity to interact, learn from each other, and celebrate our strengths. We will focus on sharing and celebrating members’ successes. Be prepared to be uplifted and inspired, come ready to celebrate, and also share your own stories.

ZERO WASTE CITIES DAY
(2 HOURS SESSION)
Zero waste is happening at the local level, and GAIA and ZWE members from around the world are showing how it is done! As our advocacy efforts to get more municipalities around the world to adopt effective zero waste strategies within their communities are having a greater impact, the GAIA/ZWE family has built impressive know-how regarding the implementation of zero waste systems across diverse contexts.
In this session, we will be celebrating this collective knowledge by sharing experiences from GAIA and ZWE members who are supporting the implementation of zero waste systems in their communities. GAIA and ZWE members are invited to present their zero waste successes and milestones for other members to learn from, and we will have sessions where you will interface with others to share more.

CLIMATE DAY
(2 HOURS SESSION)
GAIA’s Global Policy & Research team has a lot to share about climate and plastics policy work – from recent updates to upcoming events and projects. We look forward to hearing from you, GAIA’s members, about how your work connects to climate advocacy, and your interests in global plastic policy! Let’s build a stronger, wider movement for climate justice & zero waste together!

CLOSING CEREMONY

In this final session of the Global Week of Solidarity and Celebration, we’ll hear back from the conversations that took place during the week, highlighting key conclusions and next steps. In this truly global session – spanning most time zones around the globe – we’ll appreciate and acknowledge each other’s contributions to the network and celebrate member leadership in all its diversity. Join us to learn about important calls to action, future directions for GAIA and ZWE programs, and ways to participate.
