Support the movement of local organizations against ECOLTEC in Apaxco-Atotonilco, Mexico

We need to ask for your help in gathering support and strengthening the movement of local organizations against ECOLTEC, a subsidiary of the swiss multinational HOLCIM, in the community of Apaxco-Atotonilco, in México state. Ecoltec has a plant that mixes hazardous waste to produce fuel (RDF) destined for the cement kilns of HOLCIM-Apasco, that pollute the area.

For the last 15 months, the community, organized in the Citizens’ Pro Health Movement of Apaxco-Atotonilco, has maintained a camp at the entrance of the ECOLTEC plant, demanding its closure. The plant has a long history of permanent pollution with serious incidents including multiple deaths and illnesses amongst the population.

This movement now requests our active solidarity, in the form of a financial contribution, that will allow it to cover the maintenance expenses of the camp (food, shelter, basic services, etc.) and by disseminating this fight through all our networks and any media we have access to.

In the case of Mexican organizations, we hope they can support the Apaxco community’s resistence in a more direct manner, either with their personal presence, by sending goods, or by intervening in local or national media and with the authorities.
