It has been a year of remarkable struggles and successes in our collective efforts to challenge waste and pollution, and to promote healthy, sustainable solutions. We're pleased to share some of the most recent successes—including victories in Brazil and the United States, and zero waste events in Italy. We're also pleased to profile Alliance for a Clean Environment (ACE) in Western Australia, and share their recent victories.

We have a lot of exciting news to share, from the recent Global Day of Action to hard-earned victories against incineration in the U.S. and Ireland. Organizers have also been making headway in Brazil and Colombia—both countries where grassroots recyclers are coming together with environmental health and justice groups to promote inclusive zero waste systems. And in China misguided climate subsidies for waste incineration are being challenged. This month's newsletter will give you information about these developments and more!

We're so glad to be able to share with you these examples of the exciting work of our members and allies. From the joyful energy of the flashmob anti-incinerator protest in Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Country in Spain to the deep determination of those who recently marked the two-year anniversary of their successful blockade of the Ecoltec plant in Apaxco, Mexico that mixed hazardous waste into fuel for use in cement kilns, I am consistently inspired by our movement's creativity and commitment.

The last two months saw us co-organizing two groundbreaking initiatives to promote Zero Waste in Lebanon and in the Himalayas. In addition, in Bonn, we made a strong intervention before the Clean Development Mechanism Executive Board against “waste to energy” projects that undermine waste pickers’ livelihoods, increase emissions, and cause serious injustice. Finally, we celebrate the invaluable contributions and successes of two beloved colleagues.

From the streets of Detroit, Michigan, to mass rallies across India, to a community forum in Apaxco, Mexico, to the people's conference on climate change in Cochabamba, Bolivia - people are mobilizing against incineration and for zero waste, and demanding clean air, good jobs, and justice!
