Ubrei-Joe Maimoni Mariere is a climate justice advocate whose work cuts across Nigeria and the African region. Ubrei-Joe has been working with Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria (ERA/FoEN) for over a decade, starting off as a volunteer before becoming a staff. Currently, he is the administrative manager of ERA/FoEN, and coordinator of the Climate Justice and Energy Program for Friends of the Earth Africa.

From July 2021 to June 2022, Ubrei-Joe coordinated the Africa Climate Justice Group (ACJG). He currently chairs several committees in Nigeria, including the Isoko Environment Monitoring Committee (IEMC). Ubrei-Joe is a one-time National Coordinator of the Students Environmental Assembly, Nigeria (SEAN), which aims to build young students into vibrant environmental activists.

Ubrei-Joe was part of the Friends of the Earth Africa team and other CSOs in Africa that launched several campaigns in Africa, such as the Don’t Gas Africa campaign, don’t geo-engineer Africa, and the Africa Movement of Movements. In 2021, he made contributions to the development of the Just Recovery Renewable Energy Plan for Africa, and in 2022; he co-authored the Don’t Let Africa Burn publication. Both documents call for alternatives to exploiting gas on the continent and for the world’s governments to adopt their plan to achieve 100% renewable energy in Africa by 2050.He obtained an MSC degree in Environmental Quality Management from the University of Benin, Benin City Nigeria.
